Set in the southern reaches of Kenya near the Tanzanian border, Amboseli National Park spans 392 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 1,180–1,240 meters above sea level. Established as a national park in 1974, it was previously known as the Amboseli Game Reserve since 1948, and today it forms the heart of an 8,000 km² ecosystem shared with local Maasai communities
