Safari Highlights

Rhino and Chimp Sanctuary: This is the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees at the Sweetwaters Sanctuary and is the most important sanctuary for the endangered Black Rhino and the home of the last two Northern White Rhinos on earth.
The Samburu Special Five: Discover the unique arid-adapted wildlife known as the Samburu Special Five: the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk (long-necked antelope), Beisa Oryx, and Somali Ostrich.
The Great White Rhino Sanctuary: A crucial fenced sanctuary for the critically endangered Black and White Rhinos. It also offers magnificent views from Baboon Cliff and (seasonally) the spectacular sight of millions of pink flamingos decorating the lake shore.

Safari Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Morning pick-up and a scenic drive north, crossing the equator. Arrive at the reserve for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive to spot the “Samburu Special Five” (Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, and Beisa Oryx).

Day 2 Full Day Samburu

Morning and afternoon game drives exploring the dry landscape and the Ewaso Ng’iro River. Look out for the unique wildlife and large elephant herds. Optional visit to a Samburu village.

Day 3 Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, drive south to Ol Pejeta, located on the Laikipia Plateau. Arrive for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Ol Pejeta is famous as the home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos and as a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees.

Day 4 Ol Pejeta to Lake Nakuru National Park

Enjoy a final morning game drive in Ol Pejeta, perhaps focusing on the Rhino Sanctuary or the Chimpanzee Sweetwaters Sanctuary. Drive to the Great Rift Valley, arriving in Lake Nakuru in time for an afternoon game drive. The park is a sanctuary for both black and white rhino and known for its flamingos (seasonal) and the Big Five (excluding elephant).

Day 5 Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast, depart for the world-famous Maasai Mara. The drive is long but scenic, passing through Narok town. Arrive at your camp/lodge for lunch and enjoy your first thrilling afternoon game drive in the Mara.

Day 6 Full Day Maasai Mara

A full-day game drive with a packed lunch allows you to explore the vast plains in depth. Search for the Big Five, vast herds of plains game, and (seasonal, July-October) the dramatic Wildebeest Migration river crossings. Optional: Consider an early morning Hot Air Balloon Safari (extra cost).

Day 7 Maasai Mara to Nairobi

Enjoy a final early morning game drive in the Mara. Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Check out and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon/early evening for drop-off at your hotel or the international airport.
